Ruben Aubrechtʼs work subversively negotiates living conditions at the nexus between analogue and digital culture, often adding a touch of irony to productively invert the structures he addresses. For example, an incessantly blinking light bulb may hang unceremoniously from a long cable, yet the blinking rhythm follows Morse code. Observers trained in the code read the message Conceptual Art is Boring, but in any case, viewers are left with two options, the outcome of which is similar: In the first, when the message is decoded successfully, oneʼs perception of both the work and the process of viewing it has to be adjusted. In a second scenario, when deciphering fails, the corresponding disappointment leads to the same result.
